Mentor Agreement

Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Project IBS-CORE appreciates your commitment to mentoring an Undergraduate Research Fellow.  In order to ensure consistency in the program, we ask that you read, sign and return the following agreement.  Please submit to the IBS-CORE office by May 24, 2002.  Thank you! 

As a Mentor, I agree to do the following:

  1. Attend IBS-CORE Program Sessions for the purpose of Mentor/Fellow orientation and support (generally 2 in summer and a fall reception). 
     
  1. In early summer, develop joint goals with your Fellow for the mentoring experience.  Submit a copy of these goals signed by the Mentor and student to the IBS-CORE office.
     
  1. Assist your Fellow to develop a timeline for the research and submit a copy of this to the IBS-CORE office.
     
  1. Provide your Fellow with resources, advice and encouragement throughout the mentoring experience.
     
  1. Meet in person or otherwise communicate regularly with your Fellow to review research progress and help the Fellow work towards his/her goals.
     
  1. Work closely with the IBS-CORE Undergraduate Research Coordinator and keep her informed of any special needs.
     
  1. Work with your Fellow to help him/her review his/her oral presentation to be presented to IBS-CORE program participants in the summer and finalize a research poster to be presented at an IBS-CORE reception in the fall and at the UM Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR) in the spring.
     
  1. Oversee that the Fellow’s research purchase and reimbursement requests are submitted according to specified procedures and timelines to the IBS-CORE office.
     
  1. Evaluate the Mentoring Program and provide feedback for program improvement (as required by our granting agency).
     
  1. Please check each of the following statements which apply:

p  I give my permission for use of photographs and/or videos of me for IBS-CORE reporting and publicity purposes.

p  I give my permission for the use of the content of interviews with me for IBS-CORE reporting and publicity purposes, not including any discussions that I request to be confidential.
